I launched Closet Geek in August 2015 and so its been almost a year. I wanted to take a look back over the things I’ve made this year, and share a few of my favourites.
Girls dresses – according to Etsy, I’ve sold over 50 dresses in the last year. This doesn’t include the custom dresses that I’ve made with Disney fabric. My most popular is Little Miss Disgust, with 21 sales (mostly last Halloween).
Bows, bows, bows! According to Etsy, I have sold over 420. My most popular by far is Belle, with Peter Pan, Hook, Jessie and Alice being other top purchases. As well as regular bows, I have also made them into bowties and hair bobbles.
Jewellery – popular items have been Beauty and the Beast stained glass window necklace, Golden Snitch necklace, Beast’s Rose necklace and “Always” necklace. The Deathly Hallows and Wand necklaces were also popular but I had a problem with Etsy and had to unlist them.
Pencil Cases – The most popular by far has been (and still is) the Marauder’s Map pencil cases. To date I have sold almost 200 of these. After that, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Doctor Who have been the next best sellers.
Cosplay – I made a whole post about this and to be honest I haven’t had the opportunity to make much cosplay recently. These three above, plus another Alice, another Briar Rose and Wendy Darling are the only ones. I really hope to find more time this year to make more cosplay.
Favourite make of the year definitely goes to this Lottie dress that I made for special little girl’s birthday in January. I’m not only proud of the way it looks/turned out, but also pleased with the new techniques I learned and how out of my comfort zone it was at the time.
Redecorating my house brought with it the fun of trying new things, like a lampshade for my workspace, bunting and cushion covers. I got a lot of very positive feedback about my lampshade in particular and I’m just sad its not something I can really stock regularly.
Ears have become very popular in the last few months (and still are). I’ve sold over 100 pairs since starting to make them officially in May. I’m always happy to tackle any theme and any style and have even impressed myself with pairs such Marie and Maleficent.
Finally and most recently have been some hand painted items like an Anna themed skirt and especially the buntings. Anna was definitely a step out of my comfort zone as I don’t consider myself artsy and I definitely don’t trust myself to freestyle paint. However the skirt came out pretty well and I’m considering actually stocking it.
Bunting too has been a great hit, especially Rapunzel. While I don’t have them all in my store just yet, I’m developing new flags and designs all the time and hope to offer them all soon.
What will next year bring? Only time will tell. But I have to admit I’m pretty excited. I honestly can’t believe how far I’ve come in the last 12 months.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me, whether you have been here from the start or just joined in the last 12 months. I hope you know I am open to any suggestions you may have, I will try pretty much all ideas and I’m honestly very approachable 😉
